The Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) has elected Bank Negara Malaysia governor Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz as council chairman. Dr Shamsad Akhtar, governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, will be her deputy.
Both Dr Zeti and Dr Shamsad will serve on the board for the 2007 term. Dr Zeti played an instrumental role in the IFSB through the enforcement of the Islamic Financial Services Board Act 2002. The Act gives the IFSB immunities and privileges similar to international organizations and diplomatic missions. |
