The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is set to commence the full implementation of Islamic banking. The CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, said the apex bank was committed to the realisation of the operational structure for Islamic banking. Sanusi said the framework, which allows Islamic bank owners to operate as regional and national banks based on their ability to meet up with specified conditions, will push Nigeria to the fore-front of Islamic banking regime. "Nigeria wants to establish itself as the African hub for Islamic banking and is working on a regulatory framework to try emulate the success of the industry in Malaysia," he said.
